Winners of the RSSU School Champions’ Cup Are Defined

The 2018 School Champions’ Cup – O. Zhuravsky Memorial was held in the course of nine days. More than 850 chess players were struggling for the medals in four age categories. The names of the winners and medalists were announced on Saturday, February 3 in the RSSU assembly hall.

Jahandar Azadaliyev (Azerbaijan) tops the U9 Boys’ Group. He scored 8 points. Teimur Toktomushev (Ukraine), Ruslan Khabibullin and Bogdan Volynets (both from Tatarstan) scored 7,5 points. The tie-breaks provided Toktomushev with a silver medal, and Khabibullin with the bronze.

Anna Shukhman (Orenburg region) became the triumphator of the tournament of the youngest girls – 8 points. Evelina Zavivaeva (Nizhegorodskaya region) and Sofia Mutina (St. Petersburg) scored half point less. Zavivaeva took the second place due to the tie-breaks.

Vladimir Yusupkhodzhaev (Altay) takes the first place in the U11 Boys’ tournament – 8 points. Four players scored 7,5 points. The tie-breaks secured a silver medal to Ali Israfilov (Moscow region), the third place belongs to Patrik Pershin (Moscow).

Alexandra Shvedova (Moscow) won the gold medal in the U11 Girls’ competition. She showed the best result of the tournament – 8,5 points. Yana Zhapova (Zabaykalsky Krai) with 7,5 points occupied the second place. Olga Karmanova (St. Petersburg) with 7 points won the bronze medal. She overran Aliia Nagaeva (Tatarstan) and Mariia Kudriavtseva (Moscow) due to tie-breaks.

Four players scored 7,5 points in the U13 Boys’ tournament. Thanks to the best tie-breaks Arseniy Chumaevskiy (Yakutia) won the first place.  Roman Kuzmin (Sverdlovsk region) and Matvei Nikolaev (Tatarstan) occupied the second and the third places correspondingly. They left Robert Safin (Tatarstan) behind the medal winners’ line. 

Viktoriya Khurkhesova (Buryatia) with 7 points was the first at finish line in the girls’ tournament of the same age group. Five chess players remained half a step behind the leader. According to the tie-breaks Alisa Nur-Mukhametova took the second place, and Elena Mikhailina – the third (both from Moscow).

In the U15 Boys’ tournament Denis Gotsiuk (Moscow) and Daniil Subatovich (Kaliningrad region) scored 7,5 points. The best tie-breaks provided Gotsiuk with the gold. Ilia Brin (Krasnoyarsk) with 7 points won a bronze medal.

Ksenya Nikolaeva (Tatarstan) with 8 points became the winner of the senior girls’ tournament. Ekaterina Sosnina (Perm Krai) and Yuliya Mikhailova (Yakutia) scored 7 points. The best tie-breaks let Sosnina win the second place, and Mikhailova – the bronze medal. 

It should be noted that after the end of the Award Ceremony winners and medalists of the tournament made a photo with the World Vice-Champion Sergey Karyakin.
